'Strange Meeting'

'Summer on the Tamar River'

Angus Stirling comes from a family of talented artists. At University he studied architecture and later gained a Courtauld Institute diploma in Art History. For a number of years he has been a regular member of Robin Child’s art research centre in England.

Angus is interested in the relationship between music, painting and drawing. As in music, painting is a voyage of discovery in which rhythm, tone, colour, form, counterpoint, accent and melody are assembled to produce a work of imagination. Like a symphony or piece of chamber music, it should be whole and satisfying, and have something new to say on each viewing.

These are the demanding precepts which guide Angus’s working process. He aims at a personal reincarnation of landscape, human form or still life, his primary exemplars, from Cézanne onwards, being the American Expressionists and, among British 20th century artists, Ivon Hitchens and Keith Vaughan.
