Billie Newey - With no background of formal training, Billie Newey began studying
drawing and painting relatively late in life with teachers in her
home island of Jersey. One, Paul Kilshaw, a locally based artist,
was particularly important also being instrumental in her beginning to
exhibit her work. The most dominant influence has been that of
Robin Child at the Lydgate Art Research Centre in Wiltshire.
This influence opened up the world of modern art from Cézanne to Joan
Mitchell and Ivon Hitchens; the work of the abstract
expressionists, Richard Diebenkorn and Helen Frankenthaler has been
of particular interest as has the linear approach of Peter Lanyon and
Keith Vaughan.
Billie Newey has exhibited in the Channel Islands and Brittany and
has paintings in private collections in the UK and Jersey.
