Graham Fairley trained at the Birmingham College of Art and Crafts in the School of Architecture. After being a principal in general architectural practice for many years he concentrated on painting, joining the Collective in the early ‘90s with whom he has since regularly painted.

His way of seeing moves from the figurative to the abstract and at times revisits his more realistic architectural style. His rigorous early training made him understand the value of an economy of means in all creative pursuits. He is drawn to landscape and his current work is derived from frequent visits to Aberdeenshire; the paintings are ambiguous, leaning to abstraction and rejoicing in simple colour fields over complex under painting. He works from his Studio in Solihull where he has lived for most of his life, although widely travelled.

He has shown in London’s Cork Street and at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. His paintings are mainly in private collections and business houses.
