John Scrope started painting in 1992. It is an area that has always interested him but it needed the inspiration from a weekend course with Robin Child to give the necessary motivation. Since then he has regularly attended courses at Lydgate Farm. On retirement from business he completed a one-year foundation course at the local college.

He exhibits regularly at Hertford Art Society's annual open exhibition and also at the members' show. He has also exhibited at the Wykeham Gallery and at the Ardeley Festival as well as carrying out private commissions and sales.
